What is Parkour?
The original name for the discipline is l’Art Du Deplacement(ADD), in Engish the Art of Displacement. Different names appear as time goes by, and one of them is Parkour, which came from the French word parcours, meaning journey or path. Another popular term is “free-running”. In the end, names are unimportant, but we hope that we can keep the spirit, the methods and the core values of the sport alive.
Parkour stresses on developing the fundamentals of human physical movement, including balance, strength, dynamism, endurance, precision, spatial awareness and creative vision in humans. The discipline can help practitioners to be functional when using their mind and body, efficiently free their bodies of their presumed limitations. ADD/Parkour is also a strict discipline, encouraging self-directed development and behavior in practitioners, while also being natural and creative in thinking.
The above is only a simplified explanation and it may not cover all aspects of Parkour, which is a continuous improvement for practitioners in multi-dimensions. It requires practitioners to understand their own mental and physical limit while attempting to achieve beyond that. Those who practice must put an effort to control themselves, to be strong, to be honest, and focus while being creative. They must respect the law and be always ready to help others.

What can I learn in training?
You would be given an introduction to the art of displacement, a talk on its general principles and basic skills in movement in introductory class; and in classes both indoors and outdoors, you will be learning more skills in movement, instructions for safety while at the same time training to discover about yourself. You would be trained in the mental standpoint during strength training and physical exercises.
The training emphasizes on safety, where all the exercises and drills are organized and progressive. Starting out from the basics would not involve dangerous heights or environments that are harmful. The ultimate purpose is to allow students to start their own training.

In what ways does Parkour benefit me?
Under regular and systematic training, you will benefit in two aspects:

Who coaches in training sessions?
The Hong Kong Parkour Association, the most experienced and internationally-recognized team in town, is the only organization coaching the art of displacement in Hong Kong. The HKPA is also an affiliate to Yamakasi (now Majestic Force) and Parkour Generations UK.

What do I need for training?
You will need comfortable clothing and a pair of running shoes. You will need your own water and a light backpack (be ready to travel with the backpack). Please arrive to gathering place on time. If you are not able to reach the spot on time, please notify the coach of that day as we would leave the gathering spot.

How much are the fees?

Would the HKPA teach tricks or flips?
No, as flips, tricks or stunts are not our objective in training, therefore we would not teach such things in workshops or sessions.

Would classes and sessions teach students dangerous moves?
No! The HKPA do not encourage dangerous moves like high drops (dropping from a height) or gap jumps from a building to another. The workshops and sessions focus on the basics and do not put you in harm’s way.

We do not tolerate dangerous behavior or moves. If any student is found to perform dangerous moves, they would be asked to leave the group.

I lack exercise/ I am older in age, can I still join the training?
Of course you can! In our sessions we have older participants or those who lack exercise participating, who can also discover the fun in training. If you can keep up the training and train according to the principles of adaptation, you can become stronger physically as well as mentally. You will discover a new you!

此訓練的最初名稱,誕生於80年代的法國,名為Art Du Deplacement,譯為Art of displacement(移動的技藝)。隨著時光的流逝,出現了不同的名字,包括Parkour-洐生自法語parcours,意思為路線、場地-及後 來出現的Free running。無論如何,名稱是不重要的,重要的是我們需要維持此訓練的精神、方法及核心價值。
Parkour 的重點在於發展移動的基本特質,當中包括平衡(balance)、肌力(strength)、動力學(dynamism)、耐力(endurance)、 準確性(precision)、時空感覺(spatial awareness)及創意的眼光(creative vision)。此訓練能使練習者身體及心靈更富功能性,有效率及解放自身的本體限制,它更是一個嚴格的自我修養、鼓勵自主行為及率性的思考方式。

在介紹班中你將會學到Art of displacement的簡介,一般原則,基本移動技巧;在室內訓練班及戶外訓練中,你將會學到更多的移動技巧、保護方法、本體認知訓練、心理的觀點及適量的肌力及體能訓練。
